President Bush has officially vetoed the Children's health care bill on the basis that it would extend government coverage to many "higher-income" families and would have been to similar to socialized medicine. While I am not sure that offering government health care to higher income families is a good idea (that could - in theory at least - take benefits away from those who are truly needy) and I really don't think that socialized medicine and health care is the answer to our nation's health care problems, I have to wonder about the timing of this and the effects it could have on the Republican Presidential hopefuls in the upcoming 2008 election. The Democrats already have a considerable lead at the polls and they are very pro-socialized health care. This could hurt the Republican party's chances of gaining the Presidential office beyond repair. According to USA Today's On Politics Blog Hillary Clinton is taking full advantage of the veto to again reiterate that Americans are "invisible" to this President and that SHE is the answer to that problem. Oh, boy......here comes the mud slinging! Be sure to check out the USA Today's On Politics Blog .
